Made solely from grapes grown at the historic Napanook Vineyard in Yountville, Napanook is blended from blocks in the vineyard that were carefully selected for their lively fruit, soft tannins and early maturing characteristics.  The 2014Napanook is a clear expression of an exceptional vintage. Pure aromas of fresh strawberry, caramel and minty sage fill the nose. Vigorous and rich with firm, yet integrated tannins, the wine offers earthy complexity, dark cocoa and roasted almonds on a long lingering finish.
This wine is created to be consumed young and enjoyed with food, but will also age well for more than a decade. Christian Moueix recommends decanting young wines before serving to allow them to reach their full potential.
Plentiful rainfall in March and April lessened winter drought concerns, and a mild spring with few temperature fluctuations contributed to an even budbreak and a healthy bloom. Summer temperatures were consistently warm, without excessive heat spikes, which provided conditions for slow, homogenous maturation of fruit, exhibiting great character and richness.
Made in a sexy, open-knit, opulent style very much in keeping with the vintage’s signature, it offers up luscious notes of bay leaf, lavender, red and blackcurrants, plum sauce, licorice and Christmas fruitcake. This is a gorgeous, opulent, medium to full-bodied 2014 that is already revealing considerable complexity. Drink it over the next 10-15 years.
