    Description

I bought this Eskimo soapstone carving of a hunter with a seal about 25 years ago at a flea market in the same state it's in now, in two separate pieces.  The carver carved it in two separate pieces but I don't know how he attached them.  It has apparently been re-attached several times and the bottom of the seal has lost material in the middle of its belly where it rested on the man's back.  The seal has lost its right rear flipper and there are dents and dings on both the man and the seal.  The hunter is 6" tall and the seal is 3 1/2" long.  They are made of greenish gray soapstone with marks scratched into the soles of both his feet.  The right foot has "BI" over "244" and the left foot has "E6233".  I do not know its age but it is certainly not new.
