    Description

MARY TRUJILLO Signed Original "Drummer" Figure - LISTED
This is a magnificent original signed pottery "Drummer" figure by acclaimed Native American artist
    MARY TRUJILLO
    (b. 1937),
    circa
    1960
    '
    s - 1970's.
Mary Trujillo was born in 1937. Her husband is Leonard Trujillo, who has been helping Mary with her work since the 1980's. She learned many of her techniques in creating storytellers from her mother-in-law § the famous Helen Cordero. Mary has won numerous awards throughout the years, at all the various
    Pueblo
    art shows.
Her figures harken back to the earliest storytellers, which were most often males. This one is a drummer, with a separate clay drum and a wooden mallet. While many of the drums on her figures are wooden, it is rare to see one made of clay.
This rare masterpiece is signed by the artist on the base "Mary Trujillo" and inscribed "Cochiti Pueblo". It measures 12" high and
is in very good condition with a small flake of paint at the left wrist.
