MENS ORIG VTG 20s 30s WIDE BRIM STRAW BOATER SKIMMER BARBERSHOP GATSBY HAT 7 1/2

Description

An Original 1920's to 1930's men's straw boater hat also known as a skimmer; famous for being worn in barbershop quartets. A high quality hat sold by POULTAN'S of Harrisburg Pa which was known in its day for being a higher quality store. A 2" wide black grosgrain band; the brim is 2 3/8" wide, the crown is 3 1/2" high and 8 7/8" oval diameter. The leather sweatband that is in very supple condition is 1 7/8" wide. On the inside of the brim next to the leather band is a 3/4" tightly woven straw band that is different than the actual straw; I believe it is to protect and support. Also, there is an inner mesh lining behind the leather sweatband along with the crown lining being satin. The mesh and crown lining are sewn very tightly that will prevent the lining from coming loose. If you are familiar with the typical inners of a hat, you will find that this is the signs of a better quality hat. The leather sweatband is in very good condition not dry but quite supple, it has minimal organic marks. The little tan narrow ribbon bow and paper size tag are still in tact-  size 7 1/2. The straw is overall clean, very sturdy,and very stiff;as you can see in the photos there is a  slightly darker narrow band created around the base of the crown. The hat is in extremely good condition with NO nicks.A great hat that has survived all these years!! Please ask questions before bidding. Have a great day!
