    Description

Native American Art - 100% Authentic Hopi/Navajo hand carved Kachina pair. Stunning pair of Kachinas - Maasaw and Maasaw Mana.  Both are hand carved from the root of the Cottonwood tree and meticulously hand painted.  A powerful work of art by Hopi/Navajo artist Kevin Horace Quannie.
    Maasaw
, also written as Mawasa or Masau, is known as Skeleton Man - the Hopi Spirit of Death and Creator/Keeper of Fire.
    Maasaw Mana
is the woman who walks with Maasaw. She offers protection and guidance. Maasaw Mana ensures Maasaw does not abuse his power. She has the strength to keep him in check.
Both are equally powerful, but it is together that they are most powerful.

Kevin Horace Quannie, member of the Water and Corn Clan on his Hopi side, and Salt Clan on his Navajo side, was born in 1960. He is a Hopi/Navajo contemporary artist and has been a carver of Kachina sculptures since 1980. Living in Kykotsmovi, on the Hopi reservation, Kevin's occupation as a tribal ranger required long hours with little pay. It was during this time while managing a small family art gallery that he took an interest in Hopi art. Katsina doll carving became a serious occupation for him with much of his inspiration credited from notable Katsina doll carvers such as Neil David, Sr. and Lowell Talashoma, Sr.
Kevin believes his choice to be an artist was an ethereal choice in expressing his inner feelings through his art. What continues to inspire and motivate Kevin as an artisan, is that his creations will make collectors proud to add his art to their own collections.
