Description
This imposing sculpture is made of unglazed clay and depicts a Native American woman of the turtle clan.A tree is caved on her chest and her back is a turtle shell. Bird feathers are tied into her flowing hair.
Height: 15". Signed and dated on the underside "T Tarbell 13".
Tammy Tarbell-Boehning (b. 1950) is an internationally known potter and ceramic sculptor. She was born on the Akwesasne Reservation and has reinvigorated the tradition of Iroquois pottery. She was the first woman to receive the Iroquois Indian Museum's "Excellence in Iroquois Arts" award in 1996.
