Description
A small Atlantic Salmon - fish, by Joe Obed, Inuit sculptor. This salmon is a classically simple Inuit/Eskimo carving. This fish with tail slightly bent appears to be swimming. It is carved of black serpentine and Joe has incised lines (fine white lines) on it's tail and fins. The serpentine stone of the fish also has some thin lines/inclusions of white and green which are part of the stone. The base, also of black serpentine has large areas of marbled light green serpentine inclusion. The stones' inclusions add beauty and interest to this work.
(ALL lines seen are stone inclusions not chips or cracks. A crack can be felt when you gently drag your fingernail over it. No cracks!- Stating this in answer to question about a different sculpture w/inclusions lines)
The little fish is 2 7/8" long, 1" high at it's tail and about 3/4" across. The base is 2.5" at longest and 1.5" across at widest and about 1/4" high.
Joe has recently sculpted 3 other fish - a larger Arctic Char, and 2 similar size Atlantic chars in a different poses.
