Created by the husband / wife team of Stephen Wall ( Ojibway/ Seneca) and Laura Fragua-Cota-Cota (Jemez Pueblo), these joyous little desk top sculptures bring a smile, honor the old tradition of “Dodem” ( In Ojibway, dodem refers “to the effigy or other symbol of a clan, family or social group that share a common ancestry or affiliation.” ; totem was the name given them incorrectly by anthropologists.)  recycle material, and In the artist’s words, Techno-Dodems “represent the fusion of modern technology and neolithic sensibilities.” The incorporation of stone  with recycled components from phones, computers and other technological devices serves to create innovative, fun, and thought-provoking works of art. “
Measures almost 6 inches high, 2.5 inches at widest; stone carved with spiral / cross / enigmatic symbol and attached electronic components; signed Wall and dated 2006.  He is the father of Jemez Pueblo potters Kathleen and Marcus Wall, as well as Jemez sculptor Adrian Wall,  a member of of the faculty at IAIA in Santa Fe and has been creating jewelry and art for the better part of thirty years.  There is a wonderful video on-line explaining these.  Purchased directly from the artist.
